Preparing for the Needs Assessment

The Needs Assessment is an opportunity to look at what you need to study successfully. To prepare for the assessment, you might want to think about the following:

1. Find out about your course

Get to grips with the requirements of your course, and see what activities will be involved. Are you expected to participate in lectures, seminars? Are there regular assessments (coursework, presentations, exams)? Will tutors expect you to use email and online resources?

2. Think about study strategies you have used in the past

Do you have a preferred style of learning? (visual, practical, in short bursts?) Are you accustomed to getting support from school, friends and family? You may want to bring examples of your written work/lecture notes or essays.

3. Make sure you know how to get to your appointment

4. If you plan to drive, call ahead and check on car park availability

Call the centre if you need ramped or level access.

5. Arrange any communication support you might need during the day

Let us know if you need any help.

6. Make sure you have all the relevant documents

A letter from your funding body to confirm they have agreed to your assessment. You will also need to bring evidence to confirm your disability or specific learning difficulty
